This eight-week program, featuring live and on-line learning, focuses on ideas and strategies that will lead to more resilient cultural organizations that are better able to confront external challenges and thrive. We will focus on four key ingredients for success: strong, involved governance; compelling storytelling; an organizational culture of philanthropy that focuses on relationships and gratitude, and effective fundraising strategies appropriate for each organization's circumstances.
RESILIENCE! IS EXCLUSIVELY FOR ARTS AND CULTURE ORGANIZATIONS HEADQUARTERED IN BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA.
Sponsored by the Broward County Cultural Division in partnership with the Community Foundation of Broward | Broward Center for Nonprofit Excellence.
Please email glenn@lunaexperience.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Session One: Resilient Governance
Date: May 27 (online content available), June 5 (live in-person session 9–11 AM)
A fully-engaged board that embraces its governance role and confidently performs its responsibilities is the foundation of a resilient organization capable of meeting modern challenges. For many organizations, gaining clarity about the role of the board and its relationship to staff is a good first step toward improving board performance. We’re kicking off our bootcamp with a focus on the board’s role and how this group of volunteers can function at their highest and best.
Session Two: Telling Your Story - Part One
Date: June 5 (online content available)
We're confronted every day with more and more noise from advertisers, organizations, social media, blogs, cable news. How do you break through, stand out, and attract loyal followers? In order to thrive and be successful in attracting audiences and donors, you must craft your story in compelling and engaging ways.
Session Three: Telling Your Story - Part Two
Date: June 12 (online content available), June 19 (live Zoom session 9–11 AM)
The next step is crafting stories for different audiences and different purposes. Effective communications include stories of the people you are impacting, blended with compelling data. With a powerful narrative in hand, how do you design websites, social media, and other channels to effectively engage your followers and donors?
Session Four: Nurturing a Culture of Philanthropy and Gratitude
Date: June 19 (online content available), June 26 (live in-person session 9–12 PM)
Resilient organizations are grounded in a culture of philanthropy that values a holistic, intentional approach to relationships and the importance of gratitude. This leads to loyal, engaged patrons and donors, along with higher donor retention, which contributes to financial stability.
Session Five: Best Practices in Membership, Annual Giving, and Events
Date: June 26 (online content available)
Low-dollar giving through memberships, annual gifts, and events are often entry points to our organizations. However, these are three very different fundraising strategies. Understanding which to pursue, how, and when is critical. How do we take transactional relationships (members and subscribers) and turn them into something deeper? Are fundraising events really the best way to raise money?
Session Six: Middle Donor Magic
Date: July 3 (online content available)
Much has been written in recent years about mid-level donors (often called "the missing middle") who give between $1,000 and $10,000 annually. Many organizations don't pay enough attention to them, which is a mistake. Mid-level giving programs are effective tools for upgrading lower-dollar contributors, acquiring new donors, creating a pipeline for major gifts, and comfortably engaging board members in fundraising.
Session Seven: Essentials of Major Gifts
Date: July 10 (online content available)
Major gifts can make major differences in cultural organizations. They can launch new exhibitions or programs, start and sustain community engagement initiatives, and advance capital projects.
Session Eight: Development Planning and Workshopping Ideas
Date: July 17 (online content available), July 31 (live in-person session 9–11 AM)
We will integrate our learnings into a plan for donor relations, stewardship, and fundraising, identifying the core strategies that are right for your organization, key performance indicators, and benchmarks. We'll also have time in this session to you to workshop ideas and ask questions.
Note: All live, in-person gatherings will take place at the Community Foundation of Broward, 910 East Las Olas Boulevard, Suite 200, Fort Lauderdale. Unfortunately, there is no Zoom option for the in-person sessions.
This is an immersive experience, designed specifically for small-mid-size arts and culture nonprofits that are committed to becoming more resilient and able to thrive in challenging environments. We welcome senior leadership or board members.
Due to space limitations only one person per organization is able to attend live events. However, we welcome one or two other people from the organization to access our online platform.
This course is only available to arts and culture nonprofits that are headquartered in Broward County, FL. It is designed for small- to mid-size organizations.
