Welcome to LUNA

Humans have the amazing ability to find solutions for any community need. But how do you turn those ideas into sustainable enterprises? The LUNA ACCELERATOR is designed specifically for small or emerging organizations ready grow and deliver more on their mission.


We're a learning community of people passionate about their organization's impact. Your entry to the community begins with a 23-week experience of asynchronous and live workshops that will lead you to the growth and sustainability you seek. You'll be part of a cohort-based journey, one that's more like two semesters of college than a random collection of webinars. It's interactive and definitely right for those who are truly ready to level-up.


The good news is that partial scholarships are available from a generous family foundation. But make no mistake: there are obligations on your part. Don't worry, we'll be with you every step of the way.

Module One: Governance & Finance

Thoughtful and contemporary board governance sets the stage for long-term success. That's why we begin our journey with this vital topic.


The first module includes seven sessions covering:


  • Roles and responsibilities of boards
  • Recruiting, engaging, and maintaining a well-rounded board
  • The complete board handbook
  • Best practices for today's governance committees
  • Engaging boards in fundraising
  • Nonprofit accounting fundamentals
  • Financial sustainability strategies

Module Two: Setting the Stage for Fundraising

This six-week module will feature weekly videos and digital downloads, two online-only sessions, and 10 live training sessions. Topics include:


  • Understanding your value proposition and Identifying your ideal donor profile
  • Selecting the right technology to support fundraising
  • Storytelling through impact measurements
  • Frameworks for storytelling 
  • Attracting followers

Module Three: Hitting the Ground Running

With the stage set, you're ready to begin attracting, retaining, and growing your donor base. This nine-week will cover:


  • Creating a culture of philanthropy and how to be a successful, ethical solicitor 
  • Putting your donors needs and desires front and center
  • Nurturing an "attitude of gratitude" that keeps your donors coming back for more
  • Designing a comprehensive development plan that's right for your organization
  • Engaging a broad audience through direct response fundraising and special events
  • Designing a mid-level giving program that will dramatically increase revenue
  • The essential elements of major gifts
  • How to ask someone for a gift
  • Successful corporate and foundation partnerships

The Capstone Project

Each participating organization will complete a multi-part capstone project throughout the experience. The elements include:


  • A board expectations document to be used in recruitment
  • An assessment of your board to identify skill gaps
  • Being ready to recruit new board members
  • A one-page story narrative for your organization
  • A development plan that includes strategies, key performance indicators, and benchmark goals
  • A one-page solicitation letter
  • A live solicitation of a donor in the classroom setting
